In addition to running daily prayers, thikr circles, and Friday congregational services, our Community views education as essential and fundamental. Shaykh Muhammad Milanzi runs Arabic and Islamic Studies class for the Community every Sunday. At Falaq Madrasah and Afterschool Programme, our school children learn Quran and Islamic essentials as well as completing their homework, engaging in fun learning activities, and receiving moral instruction. Our community members also share their varied knowledge through regular community-led skills-transfer workshops and a “Quran Buddies” program where those who can’t yet read Quran are paired up with and taught by those who can.

Programs, Events and Outings

Our community holds special programs which keep us spiritually nourished throughout the year including during Ramadan when we break the fast together daily with a shared meal, complete a Khatm of the Quran during nightly Tarawih prayers, and have intensive Tafsir sessions where we delve into explanations of the daily reading. Other highlights include our yearly Mawlud observation with thikr, nashids, and lectures, and our yearly Jalsah celebrating the accomplishments of our Madrasah students. We strive to also nourish the social needs of our community through events such as vibrant Eid celebrations and community outings such as hikes and picnics.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.” (Tabarani) With that teaching in mind, our Community emphasizes service when it comes to outreach. We serve the broader community by offering tutoring, meals, and a safe studying space at our Afterschool Programme, open to all. We also provide counseling to individuals, couples and families both within and outside of the Community as the need arises. Additionally, we hold regular collection drives to benefit the feeding scheme at the local primary school. We also strive to be good neighbours and foster ties with the surrounding community through taking part in events and meetings, supporting local initiatives, and engaging with traditional leaders.
